Goma International Airport receives domestic flights from Kinshasa and small connections from elsewhere in eastern DRC, schedules and operators permitting. The far more common route in is overland through Rwanda: fly into Kigali, drive three to four hours to Gisenyi on the Rwandan side of Lake Kivu, and cross the border on foot at the Grande Barrière. The crossing itself takes under an hour when both posts are quiet. A visa or e-visa for DRC must be sorted in advance; security and border conditions change quickly and the route should always be confirmed before travelling.
