Lubumbashi has an international airport (Flight Identifiant: FBM) with connections to Kinshasa, Johannesburg, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and Brussels. Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Brussels Airlines, and several regional carriers serve the route. Flying into Lubumbashi is often far more practical than the road from Kinshasa, which crosses 1,500 km of very difficult terrain.
The Kasumbalesa border crossing into Zambia is the busiest land border in central Africa — a 30-kilometre drive south. The Copperbelt of Zambia is on the other side, with onward connections to Ndola and Lusaka. The border can be congested with freight traffic; individual travellers usually move through in an hour or two.
