Hamoudi Mosque

The Hamoudi Mosque — also known as Gami al-Nur — is one of the oldest and most prominent mosques in Djibouti, sitting at the edge of the African Quarter. Built in the early twentieth century, its whitewashed minaret is a city landmark and visible from much of the surrounding neighbourhood. The mosque serves the local Somali and Afar communities and is an active place of worship. Non-Muslim visitors should observe from the exterior, but even from outside the architecture and its relationship to the bustling streets around it is worth pausing over.
