Luxor has a well-connected airport 8 kilometres east of the city, with direct international flights from several European cities and domestic connections to Cairo, Aswan, and Sharm el-Sheikh. The flight from Cairo takes just over an hour and is straightforward. A taxi from the airport to the East Bank costs around 100-150 Egyptian pounds; agree on the price before getting in.
The overnight train from Cairo takes about nine hours and arrives early morning. Upper-berth sleeper trains are reasonably comfortable and one of the better train journeys in Egypt. Book in advance for the sleeper; daytime trains are less comfortable and slower. From Aswan, the journey north takes around three hours and passes the temples at Kom Ombo and Edfu.
