Luxor Temple

Elegant Nile-side temple, spectacular when floodlit at night

Built by Amenhotep III and expanded by Ramses II, this compact temple sits right on the Corniche with a clarity and elegance that Karnak's sprawl can't match. The avenue of sphinxes connecting the two complexes has been partially excavated and is being extended. At night the temple is floodlit and genuinely spectacular — one of the great views in Egypt.
