The royal burial ground of the New Kingdom pharaohs, cut into the limestone cliffs of the West Bank. Over 60 tombs have been discovered here, their walls covered in vivid painted scenes from the Book of the Dead. Tutankhamun's tomb is the most famous but far from the most impressive — the tomb of Seti I is the one that will stop you in your tracks.
