Wesley Methodist Cathedral

1930s Methodist cathedral with a strong colonial silhouette

A white-and-grey landmark just south of Adum, Wesley Methodist Cathedral is one of the most visible reminders of Ghana's deep Methodist roots. The current building dates from the 1930s and replaced an earlier mission chapel. Sunday services here are loud, joyous, and packed.

The cathedral is not always open during the week, but the exterior is worth a few minutes when you are passing through the centre. The triangular gable and twin pillars frame the kind of photograph that captures Kumasi's mix of colonial bones and West African colour.
