A few kilometres west of Winneba, the Muni Lagoon and the salt-pan flats around it form a designated Ramsar wetland — one of six in Ghana. The site is a major stop for migratory waders from Europe and West Asia between September and April, with regular sightings of black-winged stilts, sandpipers, terns, and the occasional flamingo.
The wetland is largely undeveloped, with no formal visitor centre but easy access from the dirt tracks off the Winneba-Apam road. A local guide from the village of Warabeba is useful and inexpensive — they know where the birds congregate and which paths are passable through the salt-pans.
