Eating Out

Yamoussoukro is not a gastronomic destination, but there are decent options around the central area and near the polytechnic university, which brings a student population that supports affordable local restaurants. Ivorian standards — attiéké (fermented cassava couscous) with grilled fish, foutou (pounded plantain) with palm nut sauce, and rice dishes with chicken or beef — are available at local maquis (informal open-air restaurants) throughout the city.

The Hôtel Président and a few other larger establishments cater to business visitors and offer more international menus at higher prices. For local food at honest prices, head for the streets around the grand marché.
