Yamoussoukro lies about 240 kilometres north of Abidjan by road, and the journey takes three to four hours depending on traffic. Shared taxis and bus services (including comfortable coach services) run regularly from Abidjan's southern bus station (Gare de Bassam) and from the main Adjamé terminal. The road is mostly good tarmac and the journey is straightforward.
There is a small airport at Yamoussoukro that was built as part of the presidential capital project, but scheduled commercial flights have been intermittent. Check current schedules before planning to fly. For most visitors, the road from Abidjan is the practical option. Alternatively, Yamoussoukro can be combined with a trip to Bouaké to the northeast, making it a stop on a longer north–south route through the country.
