The main market is a cross-cultural livestock and produce hub that reflects everything distinctive about Isiolo's position at the junction of several communities. Borana, Somali, Meru, and Turkana traders come together here, buying and selling goats, camels, produce, and household goods. It is colourful and lively, particularly on market days, and the trading culture on display — the bargaining, the groupings, the livestock being driven through — is a vivid introduction to northern Kenyan commerce. Even for a short stop, it is worth walking through.
