Central Business District

Nairobi's Central Business District is the brash, energetic core of the city — a grid of high-rise towers, colonial-era facades, and constant foot traffic between Kenyatta Avenue and Moi Avenue. At its centre stands the cylindrical Kenyatta International Convention Centre, for decades the country's tallest building, with a rooftop viewing deck and helipad open to visitors for the best panorama in Nairobi.

The district mixes commerce and culture. The covered City Market trades in crafts, flowers, and curios; the open-air Maasai Market sets up for beadwork and carvings; and the green relief of Uhuru Park spreads along the western edge beside the old Railway Museum. Just across the river on Museum Hill, the Nairobi National Museum anchors the city's cultural offering.

It is busy and occasionally chaotic — keep your wits about you after dark — but by day it is the place to feel the pulse of the capital.
