Things to Do

Kericho is essentially a working tea town, and most of the interest lies in the plantations themselves and the green country around them. Driving in from any direction takes you through a sea of tea bushes, with neat housing complexes for the pluckers dotted among the rows. The light at dawn and dusk, when low sun rakes across the hills, is the best time to be on the road.

In town, the focal points are the Kericho Tea Hotel — a colonial-era property surrounded by gardens — and the small museum on the main road, useful for context before heading out to the estates. The nearby Chagaik Arboretum and the dam below it make a quiet half-day trip. Walkers and birders should ask locally about access to the Kimugu River and the edges of the Mau Forest, which begins not far west of town.
