Kisumu International Airport (KIS) has daily flights to Nairobi and connections onward. The flight from Nairobi takes under an hour. Several domestic carriers serve the route; book ahead during the busy season.
Kisumu is well connected to the rest of Kenya by road. Buses and shared taxis (matatus) run regularly from Nairobi — the journey takes around six to eight hours. If you miss the direct services, you can travel via Nakuru and then Kericho, picking up onward transport at each stage.
The main bus and matatu stage sits on the corner of Jomo Kenyatta Highway and Nairobi Road, and serves destinations across western Kenya and into the Rift Valley. The stage is large and can be chaotic, so keep an eye on your bags and confirm your vehicle before boarding.
