By Air
The main gateway is Roberts International Airport (IATA: ROB), located near Harbel in Margibi County, about 60 km east of Monrovia. Transfer to the capital takes around an hour by road.
Airlines with regular scheduled service include Brussels Airlines (Brussels), Turkish Airlines (Istanbul), Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa), Kenya Airways (Nairobi), Royal Air Maroc (Casablanca), ASKY Airlines (Lomé), and Air Côte d'Ivoire (Abidjan). Accra in Ghana is the most frequent connection, useful for linking up with onward West African routes. There are no direct flights from North America or Asia — route via Europe or a West African hub.
There is also a smaller domestic airport, Spriggs Payne Airport, within Monrovia itself, used mainly for charter and internal flights.
By Land
Road borders are open with Guinea to the north, Sierra Leone to the northwest, and Côte d'Ivoire to the east. The crossing from Sierra Leone at Bo Waterside is the most commonly used by independent travelers coming from Freetown. From Guinea, the Ganta–Nzérékoré route is feasible. Road conditions on all these routes can be rough, particularly in the rainy season (May–October), when unpaved stretches become impassable for ordinary vehicles.
Bush taxis and minibuses connect border towns with Monrovia, but journeys are slow. Budget for delays.
By Sea
No regular passenger ferry service operates to Liberia. Cargo ships occasionally carry passengers but this is not a practical option for most travelers.
