Getting There

Getting to Greenville is an undertaking. The city lies about 240 km from Monrovia, but the road — paved for the first 100 km or so, dirt and often rough for the rest — can take a full day by vehicle. The rainy season (May to October) makes the road more difficult; some sections become impassable for ordinary vehicles.

By road: Shared taxis and minibuses leave from Monrovia's Redlight junction and run to Greenville when full. Expect a journey of 8–12 hours depending on road conditions and the number of stops. A private vehicle with driver, hired in Monrovia, gives more control over timing and stops.

By sea: A boat service connects Greenville to Monrovia and the port of Harper further along the coast, though schedules are irregular and the service depends on demand and vessel availability. Ask at the port in Monrovia.

Facilities in Greenville are basic: a handful of guesthouses, limited restaurants, and variable mobile phone coverage. Bring cash — there are no ATMs. Petrol and basic supplies are available in town.
