Cape Mount

Cape Mount is the wooded ridge that rises 320 m above the sea behind Robertsport, the most prominent landmark on the entire Liberian coast and visible far out to sea. The cape gave the surrounding county its name, and the climb to the summit is the standard "thing to do" for visitors who are not surfing.

The path starts behind the town and winds up through patchy secondary forest for an hour or so to the top. The views from the summit ridge are exceptional — the long Atlantic beaches stretching south, Lake Piso wide and silver to the east, and on a clear day the Sierra Leonean coast visible to the northwest. The Cape Mount Nature Conservation Unit protects a small remnant of the forest on the cape's higher slopes, home to monkeys, hornbills and the occasional duiker.
