Old Barca, or Al Marj al Qadim, is the historic settlement site associated with ancient Barce and medieval Barqa. It lies away from the rebuilt modern centre, which moved after the 1963 earthquake.
The remains are not as visually complete as Cyrene or Apollonia, but the site is historically weighty. Barca was tied into Greek Cyrenaica, later Byzantine and Islamic administration, and the agricultural wealth of the Green Mountain foothills.
