Antsirabe is 170 km south of Antananarivo on RN7, the main road south through the highlands. The journey by taxi-brousse (shared minibus) takes three to four hours from the taxi-brousse station in Antananarivo. Private taxis and tourist vehicles take about two and a half hours on the same road. There is no domestic air service to Antsirabe.
The road south from Antananarivo through Ambatolampy to Antsirabe is paved and generally in reasonable condition, though traffic is heavy with trucks. The highland scenery along the route is excellent, with terraced rice paddies stepping up hillsides and occasional zebu herds on the verges.
