Getting There

Bankas is most easily reached from Mopti by road, a journey of roughly five hours by bush taxi or minibus. Transport departs most frequently in the early morning. The road south from Mopti through Bandiagara to Bankas is unpaved for much of its length and deteriorates in the rainy season (June–September).

From Bandiagara, Bankas is about 60 kilometres further south. Occasional vehicles make this trip, but it is less frequent than the Mopti connection. Some trekkers walk between the two towns along the base of the escarpment — this is one of the classic long-distance routes through Dogon Country and takes four to six days.
