Bankas is above all a trekking base. The real activity here is getting out into the Dogon villages along the southern escarpment — on foot, with a local guide. The villages near Bankas see fewer visitors than those north of Bandiagara, and that lower footfall is exactly what makes them worth the extra effort to reach.
