Sanga's reason for being on any itinerary is the Bandiagara Escarpment — the 150-km sandstone cliff face that is home to the Dogon villages, the cliff granaries, the old Tellem burial caves, and the extraordinary culture that has developed in this landscape over seven centuries. Trekking the escarpment is the main activity, with Sanga as the most common starting point for the standard loop routes.
