The Grand Friday Mosque is one of Segou's more visible modern landmarks, a large mosque used for the city's main Friday prayers. It is not an old mud-brick monument like the famous mosques farther east, but its scale and role in local religious life make it worth a respectful look while you are in town.
Visit outside prayer times, dress modestly, and treat photography with care. Even if you do not go inside, the mosque gives a good sense of Segou as a living Niger River city rather than just a stop between Bamako and Djenné.
