Day Trips

Agadir is well placed for excursions into southern Morocco. Taroudannt, a walled city 80 km to the east, gives a sense of what a pre-earthquake Moroccan medina looks like — the souk inside the ramparts is genuinely good, and grand taxis from Inezgane make the trip easy. Paradise Valley (Oued Tamraght), about 60 km north, is a limestone gorge with natural pools fed by waterfalls from the Anti-Atlas mountains. The Massa Lagoon, 60 km south, is Morocco's most important wetland bird habitat, with flamingoes, herons, and other wading birds; access requires your own transport or a hired grand taxi. Essaouira, the windswept fortified port city, is about 2.5 hours north and makes a worthwhile two-day trip.
