The Museum of Amazigh Culture (Musée Berbère) is Agadir's most worthwhile indoor attraction — a collection of Berber (Amazigh) artefacts representing the indigenous culture of southern Morocco. The collection includes silver jewellery, Berber rugs with their geometric patterns and complex regional variations, carved wooden objects, and traditional dress from the tribes of the Souss valley and the Anti-Atlas mountains.
The Amazigh people are the original inhabitants of North Africa, pre-dating the Arab conquest by millennia, and their culture is distinct from the Arabic culture of Morocco's imperial cities. The museum provides useful context for travelling in the interior, particularly if you plan to visit Taroudannt or the Anti-Atlas. Admission is modest and the museum is small enough to cover in an hour.
