The Tafilalet palmery is one of the largest in Morocco, a vast green band of date palms running south from Erfoud to Rissani and beyond. Within the trees lies a network of mudbrick ksour — fortified villages — along with smaller kasbahs, irrigation channels (khettara), and orchards of pomegranates and almonds beneath the palms. The palmery has supported settlement here since at least the eighth century.
The easiest way to see it is by bicycle or on foot from Erfoud, taking the tracks that lead off the south road into the trees. A half-day suffices for a good wander; bring water and modest cover, and ask before photographing inside the ksour. Local guides can be arranged at any of the larger hotels in town.
