Below the Oukaimeden plateau, the Tacheddirt valley descends into the High Atlas, passing through remote Berber villages that see few visitors. Tacheddirt itself is a small village at 2,314 metres, reachable on foot from Oukaimeden by a track that drops steeply from the ski resort. The village has a basic refuge (mountain gîte) and the landscape around it — bare rock ridges, narrow terraced fields, walnut trees — is characteristic of the high Atlas at its most austere.
The Tacheddirt valley is part of the trekking network that connects the Oukaimeden area to the Toubkal circuit. From Tacheddirt you can continue to Tachedirt or Azib Tamsoult and ultimately reach the approaches to Jebel Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. As a half-day walk from Oukaimeden, the descent to Tacheddirt and back is achievable in good conditions, though the return climb is steep and the altitude means you should not underestimate the effort.
