Things to Do in Oukaimeden

Oukaimeden offers two very different experiences depending on the season. In winter it is a ski resort — Africa's highest — with runs across a snowfield at 2,600 metres. Outside of winter, the plateau is ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and exploring the High Atlas landscape. Year-round, the prehistoric rock carvings scattered across the surrounding hillsides are worth seeking out.

The Oukaimeden Ski Area has lifts and equipment rental available during the ski season (December to March). The Oukaimeden Observatory uses the high-altitude clear skies for astronomical research. The Rock Carvings of Oukaimeden are one of the richest collections of prehistoric art in North Africa, scattered across the rocky slopes just outside the resort.

For serious trekkers, the Tacheddirt Valley below the plateau leads to remote Berber villages and connects to longer Atlas routes toward Jebel Toubkal.
