Ethnographic Museum (Bab el-Okla)

The Musée Ethnographique sits just inside Bab el-Okla, the eastern gate of the medina, housed in a former bastion of the city wall. The displays cover Tetouani domestic life — embroidery, jewellery, costume, ceramics — with a particular emphasis on the Andalusian-Jewish tradition that shaped the city's craftwork after 1492.

The garden courtyard is itself worth the entrance fee, and the upper rooms give a glimpse of how the elite Tetouani households of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries actually lived. Combine with the craft school directly opposite for a half-day on Tetouani craftsmanship.
