Getting There

Outjo is on the main route from Windhoek to Etosha National Park's Anderson Gate. The town is about 390km north of Windhoek, a drive of about 4–5 hours on tarred road (B1/C38). There is no public transport of any practical use for visitors; a hire car is effectively essential.

From Windhoek: Take the B1 north to Otjiwarongo (about 250km), then the C38 northwest to Outjo (about 70km). The road is tarred throughout. The Outjo junction is well signposted.

From Swakopmund: Drive east on the B2 to Okahandja, then north on the B1 to Otjiwarongo, then northwest on the C38 to Outjo. Allow about 5–6 hours.

Fuel: Outjo has reliable fuel stations — fill up here before heading to Etosha, where fuel is available at the rest camps but at a premium.
