Outjo's main function is as a service stop for Etosha-bound travellers, but the town itself and its surroundings offer a few worthwhile stops. The Khorab Memorial outside town marks the spot where Germany surrendered South West Africa in 1915. The Outjo Museum tells the history of the colonial period in the region. The Töpfers Konditorei bakery is famous across Namibia for its German pastries.
For wildlife, the Waterberg Plateau National Park is about 120km south-east — a table mountain with a very different ecosystem from the Etosha plain, home to white rhinos, sable antelope, and roan antelope. It makes a worthwhile overnight detour if you have the time.
