Abeokuta has a growing bar scene, with a mix of traditional spots and newer establishments catering to the city's young professionals. The Adatan area on the south side of town has the most concentrated cluster of bars and lounges, busy on Friday and Saturday nights. Cold Star and Gulder beer, palm wine in plastic jerry cans at the rougher spots, and small chops — peppered snails, fried chicken bites, suya — are the standard offerings. Cafes in the European sense are rare; for coffee, the better hotels and the standard-gauge railway station have the most reliable espresso machines.
