Abeokuta is about 100 km north of Lagos, an easy 2–3 hour drive on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway (longer in Lagos rush-hour traffic). The road is mostly fine although patchy in places and best driven during daylight. Hired cars and drivers are widely available in Lagos; for solo travel, intercity minibus services depart from the Mile 2 motor park.
The Lagos-Ibadan standard-gauge railway, opened in 2021, has a station at Abeokuta and offers comfortable air-conditioned service from Lagos in around two hours. It is the most pleasant way to make the trip and avoids the worst of the expressway traffic. Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos is the nearest air gateway, about 90 minutes from Abeokuta by road or rail.
