Centenary Hall

1930 colonial hall commemorating a century of Egba self-rule

The Centenary Hall, on Lantoro Road in central Abeokuta, was built in 1930 to mark a hundred years of Egba self-rule from the founding of the city around Olumo Rock. The two-storey hall mixes British colonial architecture with Yoruba decorative motifs: pointed arches, a sloping tiled roof, and carved wooden panels at the entrance. It was used for civic functions during the colonial period and later as a meeting hall for the Egba traditional council.

The hall is open during business hours for a small admission. The interior includes early 20th-century portraits of successive Alakes, a small display on Egba history, and the original wooden assembly chairs. Architecturally it is a useful waystation on a circuit of the Ake palace district nearby.
