The main reason to use Kaduna as a base is Zaria, about an hour to the north. The ancient walled city, the Palace of the Emir of Zazzau, and the old Friday Mosque make it one of the most historically rich places in northern Nigeria. The Kagoro Hills to the south offer waterfalls and forest if you want to escape the city heat, though access requires some planning and ideally a local guide.
