Cyangugu town itself is small enough to walk. The main areas of interest — the lakefront, the market, and the border crossing — are all within comfortable walking distance of the town centre.
For Rusizi National Park, a short moto-taxi ride or taxi from town will get you to the park entrance near the Ruzizi bridge. For Nyungwe, you will need to arrange a vehicle — the park entrance at Uwinka is about 50 km east along the main road. Tour operators in town can arrange day trips with a driver, or you can hire a moto-taxi for shorter distances. Shared minibuses heading toward Butare pass the park entrance and can drop you at the Uwinka gate.
Moto-taxis (motorcycle taxis) are the standard way to move around town and to nearby attractions. Agree the fare before setting off.
