Kigali has a modest but growing bar scene, with the action concentrated in Kiyovu, Kimihurura, and along the main roads east toward the airport. Rwandan Primus beer is the default drink at local bars; imported wine and cocktails are available at the higher-end places but at significant expense.
The city is surprisingly café-heavy for an African capital — Rwanda's coffee industry is one of its great economic successes, and the quality of locally grown coffee served in Kigali is excellent. Bourbon Coffee is the main local chain with multiple branches, but smaller independent cafes have started appearing in Kiyovu and Kacyiru.
