Getting There

Kigali International Airport (KGL) is the only international airport in Rwanda and is well connected to the rest of Africa and beyond. RwandAir, the national airline, has grown significantly and now operates routes to London, Paris, Brussels, and major African hubs. Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, Qatar Airways, and Brussels Airlines all fly to Kigali, making connections straightforward from Europe or Asia via Addis Ababa, Nairobi, or Doha.

The airport is about 12 kilometres east of the city centre. Taxis are plentiful at the arrivals exit; expect to pay around 10-15 USD for the ride to central Kigali, and negotiate the fare before you get in. Moto-taxis are cheaper but not recommended with luggage.

There is no rail service. Overland buses connect Kigali with Nairobi (a long journey, usually overnight), Kampala, and Dar es Salaam. The Akagera bus network and Trinity Express run reliable services. The border crossing with Uganda at Katuna/Gatuna is the most commonly used land route.
