Praia Banana is the most celebrated beach in Príncipe, and with good reason. The bay curves in a long arc of pale sand beneath a wall of coconut palms, the water is calm and warm, and on a typical day you may have the entire place to yourself. It sits on the northeast coast of the island, accessible via the grounds of Roça Belo Monte or by boat from Santo António.
Snorkelling is rewarding at both ends of the bay, where rock formations shelter small reefs. Kayaks and paddleboards are available if you are staying at Roça Belo Monte. Even if you are not a guest, the beach itself is accessible — follow the track through the roça grounds and pay the small access fee at the gatehouse.
