Roça Belo Monte is a former cocoa plantation on the northeastern coast, established in 1922 and now operating as Príncipe's most comfortable boutique hotel. The restoration has been done with care: the original plantation buildings — the main house, workers' quarters, drying sheds — have been converted into suites and communal spaces without stripping out the colonial character. The result is an unusual combination of colonial-era atmosphere and genuine comfort.
Even if you are not staying here, the estate is worth visiting. The grounds are well-maintained and lead directly to Praia Banana through a short forest path. The estate also sits within easy reach of good birdwatching habitat, and the management can arrange guides. In the early morning, grey parrots often fly over in noisy flocks, and the cocoa groves around the buildings attract Príncipe sunbirds.
