Domaine de Val des Prés, also known as the Seychelles Craft Village, is a cultural heritage site in Au Cap on the eastern side of Mahe. It occupies a reconstructed Creole village with traditional architecture, craft workshops, and demonstrations of the skills — boat building, basket weaving, coconut oil production — that sustained life on the islands before tourism arrived.
The site includes workshops where you can watch artisans at work and buy directly from them. There is a small restaurant serving Creole food. The setting, in a valley with old plantation buildings and trees, gives a better sense of historical Mahe than the modern capital does. It is a functioning craft centre rather than a museum, and the quality of the work on sale is generally good.
