Mahe's highlights divide between Victoria and the island's beaches, forests, and gardens. The Victoria Market is the liveliest place in the Seychelles capital on weekday mornings. The Morne Seychellois National Park covers nearly a third of the island and contains good hiking trails through cloud forest. For beaches, Beau Vallon on the northwest coast is the busiest and most accessible; Anse Intendance in the south is among the most beautiful.
The Botanical Gardens in Victoria are worth a morning, especially for the giant tortoises and the endemic coco de mer palms. Le Jardin du Roi is a spice garden 20 minutes south of Victoria that covers 85 acres of hillside with cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg trees. The Domaine de Val des Prés in Au Cap presents traditional Creole crafts and architecture.
