Getting Around

Mahe has a network of buses that connect Victoria to most parts of the island, and they are cheap, frequent on main routes, and a good way to reach Beau Vallon from Victoria. For the quieter southern and western beaches — Anse Intendance, Anse Takamaka, Anse Soleil — a hire car or taxi is more practical.

Car hire is widely available; driving is on the left (inherited from British rule). The roads in the mountainous interior are narrow and winding, often with steep drops, but they are well surfaced. Taxis are unmetered and prices should be agreed before you get in. Scooter hire is available in Victoria for those comfortable on mountain roads.
