Morne Seychellois National Park covers about 3,045 hectares — roughly a fifth of Mahe's total area — and protects the granite peaks and cloud forest of the island's mountainous interior. The highest point is Morne Seychellois at 905 metres, which can be reached by trail from Sans Souci Road. The park contains Mahe's best hiking, with trails ranging from short walks through lowland forest to the full summit climb.
The vegetation shifts dramatically with altitude. At lower elevations it is dense tropical forest; higher up, the trees become shorter and more gnarled, draped in mosses and ferns, with the granite boulders breaking through. The park provides habitat for the Seychelles warbler, the Seychelles bulbul, and several endemic palm species. The Sans Souci Forestry Station near the start of several trails has maps and basic information. Sturdy shoes and plenty of water are essential — the trails can be wet and slippery even in dry weather.
