Beau Vallon on Mahe's northwest coast is the island's main beach — a two-kilometre crescent of pale sand backed by casuarina trees and a scattering of restaurants and dive shops. The beach is never crowded by Maldivian standards, but it is the most developed stretch on the island, with water sports operators offering snorkelling, diving, sailing, and glass-bottom boat trips.
The snorkelling at Beau Vallon itself is decent rather than exceptional — the best reefs are offshore around Silhouette Island, which dive operators run day trips to. The beach is accessible by bus from Victoria, making it the default for visitors without hire cars. In the evening, the beach bars light up and the food trucks appear: grilled fish, Creole curries, grilled corn. It is a genuinely pleasant place to spend a late afternoon and evening, even if the quieter coves around the south of the island are more beautiful.
