Camps Bay

White-sand Atlantic beach below the dramatic Twelve Apostles ridge, lined with cafés and bars

Camps Bay is the most glamorous of Cape Town's Atlantic beaches: a wide strip of white sand under the dramatic backdrop of the Twelve Apostles ridge, with a palm-lined promenade and a tight row of cafés, bars and restaurants directly opposite. It fills with locals and tourists on every sunny day from October to April.

The water is cold — this is the Atlantic, with the Benguela current pushing south — but the beach is excellent for sun, walking and people-watching. Sunsets are spectacular. Parking is difficult in peak season; consider an Uber or the MyCiti bus from the city centre.
