Cape Town is a good city for African crafts, wine, and independent design. The V&A Waterfront has the largest concentration of shops and the most tourist-facing craft market; the quality is higher than at most African markets and the prices reflect it. Greenmarket Square in the city centre has a cheaper outdoor craft market running on most weekdays.
The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock has become the city's most interesting design quarter — the Saturday Neighbourgoods Market (7am–2pm) is a weekly food, craft and design fair that draws the city's creative community, and the surrounding warehouses house permanent design and furniture studios. For serious shopping, the Victoria Wharf mall at the Waterfront is comprehensive; for something less chain-heavy, the streets around Long Street and Kloof Street have independent boutiques, vintage shops and good bookshops.
Clarke's Bookshop on Long Street is a Cape Town institution, particularly strong on African and South African titles. The Pan African Market, also on Long Street, stocks textiles, carvings and crafts from across the continent.
