Cause Effect is one of the more serious cocktail bars in the City Bowl, operating out of a narrow space on Loop Street with a bar programme that changes seasonally and draws on local fruit, fynbos botanicals and South African spirits. The menu is written in the style that has become standard for bars of this type — descriptive but not obscurantist — and the bartenders are capable of explaining what they're doing without a lecture.
Good for an early-evening drink before dinner rather than a full night out; the bar is small and gets loud when full. The Loop Street neighbourhood has a decent density of other bars and restaurants close by, so it integrates well into a longer evening route through the City Bowl.
