Groot Constantia

Cape Town's oldest wine estate with manor house museum

Address Off Constantia Road, Wynberg

The oldest wine estate in South Africa, Groot Constantia dates back to 1685 when Governor Simon van der Stel was granted the land. The Manor House is furnished with Cape Dutch furniture from the mid-1700s alongside Chinese, Japanese, Rhenish, and Delft porcelain, offering a vivid picture of colonial farm life.

The Wine Museum traces the history of winemaking through drinking and storage vessels in glass, silver, copper, and stoneware spanning from 500 BC to the 19th century. Cellar tours run on the hour most of the day, and the tasting room pours the estate's own wines. The grounds are beautiful for a stroll, especially on a sunny afternoon.
