Sea Point Main Road is Cape Town's most cosmopolitan eating and shopping street, a dense strip of restaurants, delis, bakeries and supermarkets running parallel to the promenade from Mouille Point to Bantry Bay. Unlike the tourist-facing V&A Waterfront, this is a neighbourhood high street used by residents.
The stretch between Regent Road and Chester Road has the highest concentration of food shops: kosher bakeries, Middle Eastern delis, Asian supermarkets and several of Cape Town's better-regarded independent grocers. For a quick lunch, the pavements fill with office workers and residents from the surrounding apartment blocks. In the evenings the restaurants take over — the density and variety of options per block is hard to match anywhere else in the city.
